Arable Production

[Sown Field]
Recently Sown Field

What we do

After buying the farm in June 2011 we immediately set about converting it back to Organic Production by sowing a clover rich grass ley to fix nitrogen, from the air, by utilising naturally occurring bacteria on the roots of clover.

This nitrogen is an essential macro nutrient for plant growth and after two years of improving the soil after intensive cereal production the first winter wheat crop was drilled in autumn 2013.

The reason we say converting it "back to" Organic Production is that up until about 1950 all farms were organic.

This wheat is to be sold through a farmers cooperative called Organic Arable and is ultimately destined for Waitrose.
